Gunner

She was mine. There was no going back. Now that I knew what she tasted like, felt like, I couldn’t get enough. She was everything.

Feeling her next to me all night settled my restless mind. I slept without nightmares for the first time in ten years. I didn’t think I could ever sleep as soundly with someone draped over me, holding me as if they thought I’d disappear.

I woke up refreshed, the sun still fighting its way through the dark. It must have been about six, two hours after I normally got up.

Freya was stirring as well. When her body locked tight and her hand flexed in mine, I knew she was awake. I had been holding her hand to my chest, the gesture feeling natural, so I’d gone with it. I’d never held hands with anyone, but the need to touch her was overwhelming, and I was done fighting it.

“Morning,” I rumbled, my voice still hoarse from sleep.

She tilted her head back, and I looked down to meet her gaze. Her face was soft from sleep, her beautiful aquamarine eyes blinking at me.

“Morning,” she murmured, said eyes drifting to my lips.

I didn’t hesitate to slide her up my body, meeting her mouth in a deep kiss. There was no hesitation on her part as she sank into me, burying her hands in my hair.

I usually buzzed it close to my head to make it easy to take care of, but since our recent troubles, cutting my hair hadn’t been a priority.

When she broke the kiss, her lips traced a path down my body. The cool brush of her fingers was in delicious contrast to her warm mouth. She took me in hand, and I watched with wide eyes, making sure this wasn’t all just a figment of my imagination.

The beauty of her naked body combined with her skilled hands and mouth brought me to the brink of ecstasy within minutes. If I had any coherent thoughts left, I would have been embarrassed at how quickly I was ready to blow. But all I could feel was Freya and an unfamiliar sense of happiness. I was beginning to think the two went hand in hand.

I couldn’t remember the last time I woke up with someone in my bed. Or let someone else take control. But every time our eyes met, she looked happy and pleased that I let her explore, so I didn’t dare stop her. Her happiness meant everything to me.

When I couldn’t take any more, I flipped us over, my hands now doing all the exploring. I kissed her deep, her nearness intoxicating.

She grew restless, her breathing erratic, her hands roaming my body with an urgency that wasn’t there before.

The invisible web of attraction between us was growing with every touch and kiss, and I was unable to wait any longer. I reluctantly pulled away and reached for one of the condoms I’d placed on the nightstand last night, more grateful than ever for Carter's need to keep every safe house and bag packed with the essentials.
